National Piano Teachers' Guild Auditions

The primary function of Guild is to establish definite goals and awards--in noncompetitive auditions--for students of all levels, from the earliest beginner to the gifted prodigy. Students play only against a standard of excellence in the auditions and do not compete with each other. The audition provides for an "annual check-up" with an outside adjudicator, who acknowledges progress and encourages all students to continue in their study of piano.

Guild auditions assure good teaching, balanced repertoire, good technique, attention to details, and unprejudiced opinion of a professional judge. The purpose is to encourage growth and enjoyment through the study of piano. Depending on the number of pieces performed, students will receive a bronze, silver or gold pin in addition to a certificate and report card.

Guild auditions are an essential part of the program at Sandyview Studio. The student fees for Guild are included in the monthly tuition fee, so there is no extra charge to participate in the auditions.

Each student will play up to ten memorized pieces, with scales and cadences to go with each piece. Many of the pieces will be from the student's regular lesson books, but may also include the recital piece and/or other supplementary pieces.

The 2022 National Guild of Piano Teachers Auditions are planned for Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7.
